Zero : Tamil

Music by: Nivas K Prasanna

1] Uyire un uyirena:  A melodious and soothing song with all elements found in Nivas K Prasanna songs. Pleasant number.

2] Veredhuvum nijame illai/You are in my heart:Another melodious and soothing song, song is continuously backed with piano and use of flute boosts the soothing effect. English version of the song with couple of tamil words is also a nice experience to ears.

3] Engae Ponaai:Apart from melody, song is excellent in  its arrangements. Nivas K Prasanna shows the potential to match with current top league Tamil musicians like Harris Jayaraj or Yuvan Shankar Raja or others.

4] Indha kadhal illaiyel: Song with sweet tune sung by Nivas himself. Song has many places that catch attention of the listener like change in the mood of the tune at "Nam Idhayangalai" or scale change towards the end of the song and effective use bass guitars etc.

Overall, Album confirms the potential of rising Music composer, Nivas K Prasanna, after his Thegidi (2014). Nivas K Prasanna is to stay here for a long.

Tera Surroor : Hindi

Music by: Himesh Reshammiya

1] Main wo chand:  A Mithoon style song and strikingly similar to "tum hi ho" of Aashiqui 2 (2013) at
some places. However, barring a few moments of inspiration, it is pleasant song to listen. The best song in the album.

2] Bekhudi: Song starts with a guitar piece which might create a doubt- if the song is inspired from another Aashiqui 2 song "Chahu main ya na", but further what follows is Himesh-style melody in Darshan Rawal's voice. Absence of Himesh's voice actually makes song better.

3] Wafa ne bewafai: Another template Himesh tune with Arijit this time. Also, arrangements in song are quite good.

4] Adhuri Zindagi: A rock style song from Himesh. Himesh tries the song which is out of his comfort zone.

5] Ishq Samundar: This is a recreation of number from movie "Kaante (2002)" originally composed by Anand Raj Anand, with some mixing by Himesh including his song "Assalam Walekum". Song is too loud to be likeable.

6] Teri Yaad [2 versions]:  There are 2 versions, one of Himesh and Badshah and other of Himesh. This time, its pure Himesh song, in his own voice and without missing any element! Nothing to say much.

Overall, Average Himesh Reshammiya album!

Fitoor : Hindi

Music by: Amit Trivedi

Amit Trivedi is among such music directors who put their signature in majority of the work. O. P. Nayyar was one of such composers in olden era. Amit has developed his signature style for tunes that include shifts in minor-major scales, long notes and fixed set of instruments with strong use of strings etc. He delivers the best songs in this style and each of such song given by him is class.

Fitoor has ample of such material.

1] Fitoor:  It is the first signature-Amit-trivedi genre song of the album. This song is no exception to the class. Arijit has rendered the song beautifully.

2] Pashmina: This is second song of the same family as 'fitoor'. Beatiful orchestration. Song can be classified as excellent, musically.

3] Himanstu: Sounds very much like folk Kashmiri song with stylish orchestration.

4] Hone do batiya: The most unusual song of the album. With Kashmiri style music and beautiful use of strings including santoor-saz-rabab-bouzouki. Use of native Kashmiri style instruments and unusual tune combined are highlight.

5] Tere liye: This is the third installment in Amit-trivedi signature songs. Song has nice arrangements with wide use of guitars. However, song seems quite ordinary as compared to other songs.

6] Ranga re [2 versions]:  Synthpop with good tune. It will attract the regular listeners of English music. English  version of the song is better.

Overall, great and unusual musical starter for 2016!

1. 3 songs of the movie, Fitoor, Pashmina and Tere liye belong to family of signature of Amit Trivedi signature songs. If you are fan of this signature style then you will like these songs. Some earlier songs in the family are Manmarziyan (Lootera), Lehrein (Ayesha), Badara Bahar (Queen), Nayan Tarase (Dev D), Shubharambh (Kai Po Chhe) etc.

Friends : Marathi

Music by: Nilesh Moharir, Pankaj Padghan, Amitraj

1] Man he pakharu:  This is a standard Nilesh Moharir song - can be said self-inspired! Combination of a typical Nilesh Moharir style rhythm- which is enough evidence to identify his songs and sweet melody. Song is sweet and addictive. However, Nilesh is being too redundant in his style and this is just like many of his TV serial title songs with better arrangements. Still this remains the best song in the album, thanks to melody. [Composed by: Nilesh Moharir]

2] Premika:  Song starts with hindustani style percussion/tabla. We expect something like 'Kaisa ye ishq hai' or 'Cham cham zilmilate (Movie: Striker)' to follow but suddenly western style tune starts with typical SIFM* style arrangements. Vijay Prakash carries song well. However, Pankaj seems very much inspired from tamil/telugu urban songs for this number. Song uses all type of mixing, hindustani percussion, Spanish guitars, Western tune etc. and also reminds many of songs yet remains average number. [Composed by: Pankaj Padghan]

(*SIFM : South Indian Film Music)
.

3] Dil dosti yari vaari: Starting of the song is heavily inspired (but not exactly copied) from A R Rahman's song 'Kara Attakara' (Movie: O Kadhal Kanmani). Further, song takes very much 90s Indi-pop style tune. Song is average but can be enjoyed couple of times in 'friendship' mood! [Composed by: Amitraj]

Overall, every song draws heavy inspiration but still not bad experience to listen.

1. 'Man he Pakharu' is from the family of Nilesh Moharir's earlier work for marathi tv serial title songs right from 'unch maajha jhoka' to 'julun yeti reshimgathi'!! If you like this song, then you might like all the songs from family and vice versa.

Wazir : Hindi

Music by: Shantanu Moitra, Ankit Tiwari, Prashant Pillai, Advaita, Gaurav Godkhindi

1] Tere bin: Very melodious-sweet song composed by Shantanu Moitra and sung by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal. Shantanu and Ajay-Atul have given such songs in past years with very melodious tunes and western classical style arrangements in interludes/preludes. Best song of the album

2] Maula Mere Maula : A qawali composed by Shantanu Moitra and rendered by Javed ali, but again, Shantanu maintains his signature softness in tune and composition.

3] Tu Mere Paas: This is quite usual Ankit-Tiwari-Song! Like Himesh, Ankit is a good composer but should avoid singing. Songs composed and sung by him appear to be same.

4] Khel Khel Me: This is equal to Instrumental music + Bachchan's vocals! Composed by band Advaita.

5] Tere Liye: This is solo song composed by Prashant Pillai, standard-bollywood-sufi style! Fans of the genre would certainly admire the composition

6] Atrangi Yari : Composed by Rochak Kohli (Often seen in past together with Ayushman Khurana in credits) and rendered by Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar  -non formal singers. Country pop style song is good listen for the admirers of Bachchan,Farhan and Rochak.

7] Theme: Composed by Gaurav Godkhindi , this is suitable background instrumental.

Overall, Shantanu Moitra's songs are attraction of the album and total album is above average.

Sanam Teri Kasam : Hindi

Music by: Himesh Reshammiya

1] Sanam Teri Kasam (2 versions): 2 versions are Sung by Ankit Tiwari and Mohd Irfan where, Palak Muchhal is female singer in both versions. Song uses fine arrangements with bass guitar and Spanish guitar. Arrangements in Ankit's version are slightly better but Mohd Irfan scores more in singing. Sweetness in Palak's voice is utilized very well in melodious lines "Tumhe dikhate hi aankhe, ho jaati nam". Pleasant number.
(see recommendations)

2] Kheech Meri Photo:  Like many other selfie-photo etc songs! Nothing special.

3] Tera Chehara:   Arijit's singing and use of Tabla beats make song feel better. Above average song.

4] Bewajah:    Right from opening, song creates fair impression. Otherwise, Himesh's voice has become too usual and monotonous to attract but, this song is exception. Himesh carries song like a pro-singer and also, beautiful melody and pop-rock arrangements in song decorate it better.
[melody for stanza strongly reminds 'ye jo des hai tera' song in swades which has quite similar melody for stanza -However, this can easily be ignored as composer's liberty of inspiration or mere co-incidence].
2nd best song of the album, first being title number!

5] Main Teri Yadon Me:  Arijit's second song is much like late 90s/early 00s indi-pop songs!

6] Ek number:     Remake of 'Long drive pe chal'!!! (see recommendations)

7] Haal -E -Dil (2 versions):  There are 2 versions, male and female, by Sree ram chandra and Neeti Mohan respectively. Arrangements in song are good, Sree ram's version has some Arabic style effects too. However, song seems suitable for suspense-thriller or horror movies due to it's tune and arrangements. Melody of song is just average.

Himesh composes good songs provided he doesn't sing those. This album has one exception to this and also, majority numbers in album are out of Himesh's comfort zone. Overall, above average album -with 2 (actually 3) impressive and 2 listenable songs out of 9!

Style King : Kannada

Music by: Arjun Janya

1] Ala le Sukumari : This is a standard Arjun Janya Template melody! Sweet and pleasant to listen.

2] Nanage :   Another standard Arjun Janya template item. Although Arjun's songs are like many other his earlier songs, each one of this type is still pleasant and attractive.

3] Gangu Gangu : Fun-oriented south Indian movie song template

4] Dhaga Dhaga: South Indian Hero dedicated song template

5] Stylo : Fun-oriented south Indian movie song template part - 2

6] Style king theme:  South Indian hero dedicated theme template part -2

All in all, a set of very predictive music. Better than general Kannada film music standards but below Arjun Janya's standards.

Recommendations:
(You might also like these songs if you have liked the movie song in brackets or vice versa)

As the songs are mostly template-based songs, each one has numerous similar other songs. For that matter, any of Arjun's previous work or Devi Sri Prasad's work (in telugu) can be recommended.

Gethu : Tamil

Music by: Harris Jayaraj

1] Thillu Mullu: An instant catchy number with its arrangements and Naresh Iyer's singing. Song starts with MJ style prelude and retains the mood created.

2] Adiye Adiye:   This one is signature song of Harris. This Pop-rock style song attracts the most at lines "kadai kannal....udaikindral". Again catchy, refreshing number and treat for fans of HJ-Karthik combo songs.

3] Thaen Katru: Opens with stylish prelude and retains the sweetness of melody throughout the song. Soothing and melodious number.

4] Yevanda Ivan : Rap and electronica! Arrangements play important role in such songs and this number certainly scores fine at that part!

5] Mutta Bajji :   Suits to Harris' new signature of native folk kuthu songs.

A complete set of Harris' usual signature styles loved by his fans. Although album is good, it is below the benchmark set by Harris himself

Airlift : Hindi

Music by: Amaal Mallik and Ankit Tiwari

1] Soch na sake (2 versions): This song is the highlight of the album. Although the most attractive lines of the song are taken from Hardy Sandhu's song "Soch", Amaal Mallik has made significant contribution in composing rest of melody equally pleasant and also arranging the song beautifully. Arijit Singh's solo version sounds better than the duet version due to Tulsi Kumar's limitations.

2] Mera nachan tu: This is a typical Punjabi-folk derived song. Song is a good listen but fails to make any impression and doesn't seem catchy at all.

3] Tu bhula jise: The patriotic and very well arranged song. KK has rendered the song with required feel. Producers should have thought about including instrumental version of the song.

4] Dil cheez tujhe de di: It is the only song composed by Ankit Tiwari. The song is designed to have a middle-eastern (Arabic) feel with instruments used in song and its arrangement. Song is very much catchy and makes impression very quickly. However, song derives melody for the words 'de di' from Cheb Khaled's very popular song 'dee dee'.

Overall, an impressive album.
